Shyam Sundar in Lead

Tamil Nadu’s International Master Shyam Sundar (2415) was in the joint lead with three other Grand masters at the end of the 3rd round of the Leiden International Open tournament being held at Leiden, Holland.

It was in all, a good day for the Indian players as most of them got fairly lower rated opponents and won their games quickly and convincingly. Tamil Nadu girl Harini(1986) went from strength to strength by defeating higher rated FM Erwich, Frank (2319) of Netherlands and has shown a rating performance of 2529 so far having remained undefeated. Playing the white side of Ruy Lopez, Harini got a comfortable position from the opening and saw a little bit more than her opponent in the ensuing complications and won a pawn in the middlegame. She ruthlessly pushed the pawn ahead and won the game to be in the reckoning for a WGM norm or possibly more .

Harini along with Adhiban, VAV Rajesh, Lalith Babu and Karthikeyan are in the joint second position with 2.5 points from 3 rounds.
